An acquaintance of mine told me that in Portugal, some city people still have a live-in maid in their houses. And those maids are typically uneducated peasant girls from the countryside.

Essentially, it appears like Portugal still has some sort of two-tier system, the upper tier is its city residents, the lower one its country residents.

So it seems that in that aspect, that part of Europe is very much like China. And, the North America is more equitable than that part of Europe.
