Let's compare 2 jobs at the Oshawa truck plant.
1/ Lug Nut Tightener, CAW member
Duties = responsible for tightening the lug nuts on the truck wheels
Qualifications = must know how to tighten a bolt
Education = grade 12 (actually I'm not certain he finished high school)
Wage = $33/hr plus comprehensive benefits package including dental
2/ Mechanical Engineer, non-CAW, contract
Duties = performing FEA (finite element analysis) to predict the deflection of the doors and underbody in a side impact accident.
Qualifications = must have intimate knowledge of CAD software, crash simulation analysis and a strong background in metallurgical science.
Education: 4 year bachelor's degree mechanical engineering and a 2 yr masters in metal deformation from the University of Toronto.
Wage = $27/hr, no benefits but has free access to first aid kit
DOES ANYONE SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE NUMBERS ABOVE ???????
