Hi Mr. Ian Jones:

I'm very busy these days. I'll get back to you about that issue later on, all right? Thanks.

'I'll get back to you later, all right? Thanks.'...a reply which seems rude to me. Perhaps an simple acknowledgement of the fact that you should have asked, or given credit, on your other blog. You've been found out.

So I thought about this a bit more...You used the picture as a group icon on your douban blog....my picture is in the public domain...it means by blogging it, more people see it....that's a good thing...end of.
If you are busy making a fortune...send me a cut and we are even ;) Peace.

Mr. Ian Jones:

That pic of yours is under the Creative Commons license. I hadn't done any research on the details of CC license. I just thought that it's free for any non-commercial use. Am I right? Please enlighten me about that.

On a related note, you required that I "should have asked, or given credit" to you. But I displayed a link to your original photo on Flickr, which contains your credit information, on my Douban group home page. Isn't that some kind of giving due credit? I'm not arguing with you here. I just want to get enlightened about the Creative Commons license.

In addition, you wrote "'I'll get back to you later, all right? Thanks.'...a reply which seems rude to me." As for that, well, I've never thought that expression of mine would look impolite or rude. If instead I wrote "I'll get back to you about that issue later. Is that all right for you? Thanks.", would that be better? Seriously, I'd like to know your take. Thanks a lot.

Hello. Thank you for replying to my comments. Firstly, let me say that I do not want to argue either, but I will express my opinion.
I too am not sure about the creative commons licence. However, I accept that the picture is out in the public domain. I suppose that my main point is that the picture is your icon. Personally, if I was going to blog and wanted an icon, I would take the photo myself, or if I needed to use another, I would somehow ask the owner of the photo and give credit on the blog homepage. I feel that your link does not do this.
To be honest, I thought your comment 'I'm very busy these days. I'll get back to you about that issue later on, all right? Thanks.' did seem dismissive of my concern that my photo was being used as a group icon.
Essentially, this matter to me this is not to do with how 'creative commons' works - it is a simple matter of how do you go about borrowing/using someone else's property and comes down to simple courtesy. Thank you. Kind regards i.m.j.

I really though I'd replied to your last comment. One more try and then I will not comment again.
'I'm very busy these days. I'll get back to you about that issue later on, all right? Thanks.' This comment was dismissive of my concern that you had used the picture without asking. Rude? Perhaps not. Dismissive? Yes.
Your link to my photo did not give credit - it was just a link to my photo.
As I typed before, if I were to blog and needed an icon, I would either take the photo myself or actively seek the permission of the photographer. In my opinion, it was not an issue of creative commons or not ( I have since changed all rights to my pictures) - it was a case of being polite and asking. I wonder if this comment will be published. Thank you.

I should have put the wording this way: "I'm very busy nowadays. I'll get back to you later on ASAP. And I appreciate your concern and patience. Thanks." Shouldn't I? :-)

Your link to my photo did not give credit - it was just a link to my photo.

Combining that with your comment of March 26, 2011 10:08 AM, I've decided I should give you due clearer credit on the Douban.com group homepage. And I've done so just now. Please check it out at your convenience. Thanks.

3. A clearer understanding of the Creative Commons license is required.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks very much for reply and especially thanks for the very clear way you responded with your three points.
Your credit on douban.com is very generous and I thank you warmly for this :-) I am happy that you still think the photo worthy of its place.
This has been an interesting discussion and I agree with your third coment about understanding the creative commons. I accept it was my labelling of the picture with the c.c. licence was the cause of this discussion in the first place.
Finally, may I wish you a Happy Weekend and success with your ventures in the future. If you don't mind, I will perhaps comment again on your blog as I watch it unfold.
Thank you.
