Article via web - India, Russia mark decade of strategic ties with Medvedev visit

You can take a gander at this report from CNN: India, Russia mark decade of strategic ties with Medvedev visit.

Quote:

"Russia is a time-tested friend of India that has stood by us in our times of need in the past. Ours is a special and privileged strategic partnership. It is a partnership that has and will continue to develop independent of our relations with other countries," Singh remarked.
The two nations forged a strategic partnership in 2000 and have since been holding summits every year.

A person's intellectual depth and emotional depth tend to be correlated, I suppose.

(Image via http://goo.gl/ythAS)

And I only have become aware of that possibility lately.

Nowadays, so many Chinese adopt a very very Westernized image on the internet.

Stratagems need studying, because they are disliked.

Take a peek at this article at the NYT: Crisis Panel to Probe Window-Dressing at Banks.

My experience with douban.com brought home to me the relevance and potential of SNS.

For years, Google has been insinuating itself to surrogate and surpass Microsoft.

Certainly it has succeeded exceedingly. Next, I want to see how it will or will not stave off the pertinent threats of Facebook and Twitter and the likes. I guess, that pretty much is the the first thing in the morning on many Google executives' minds.

North Korea seems to be so isolated a sovereignty that no intercession on behalf of it has been publicly made.

That, looks so surreal.

So many businesses have been undone, or undermined, by their own being lax about morality.

The Zeitgeist - great overload of information, and great confusion.

(Image from http://goo.gl/Pgl3J)

And that's been my personal feeling.

Till a moment ago, I've been burning the midnight oil and reorganizing my electronic information channels. Phew. For the time being, I shun Facebook and Twitter, while I embrace email and RSS reader.

Does great confusion really present great opportunities?

I imagine the day when my daughter grows up big enough and I can gather her to me.

Family life enriches and matures a man.

Do I think that oral English training and self-training have become too much of a good thing for the native speakers of the Chinese language? You bet.

A person's emotional and mental strengths, as well as his physical strength, are finitely exhaustible.

That is why he needs to gather himself sometime, either mentally or physically, or both.

A myriad of tech media and blogs have been bustlingly prognosticating the upcoming landscape of the smart phones competition.

Is RIM, the manufacturer of Blackberry, another Nortel in the making? Many people, especially Canadians, must have this question on their minds.

Weather anomalies seem to have become one the major risks in people's lives in North America and Europe this winter.

iPads vis-a-vis China

(Picture from http://goo.gl/hum3n)

I am amazed by the fact that iPads and iPhones have been bought, or craved, by many consumers in China's urban areas. That, may signal a watershed that China's consumers need higher end products and services.

Meaningful money only can be made in passing.

Sometimes I really tend to think that happiness is the most expensive thing for any one in the world.

The ability to get it cannot be found on everybody, yet the yearn for it is inevitably found on everybody. And that is one of the reasons why the business of seriously making merry, such as entertainment film-making and entertainment music making, is of the magnitude of at least 100 billion US dollars, globally.

Sublimely, some artists have or had studied human nature very deeply.

We must mark their works, in order to know more about their thoughts and emotions, and more about ourselves, I think.

Money worship, if too abrasively pervasive in a human organization, would lead to one common ruin.

(Picture via http://goo.gl/s8JNp)

Any society, including the largely atheist China, should not allow that to happen.

Any man should not be deputed to go without the armor of pragmatism.

Innocence must be lost ASAP.

I for one suspect that patriotism would be readier for conjuration in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S. than in China.

Cynicism may be one of the biggest perpetual enemies a man must fight against.

Hmm, consider myself warned.

The aesthetics of the English language should be promulgated in the high schools and universities in China.

For that matter, it would be ideal that the same occurs for all the knowledge branches, be it Math, Physics, or any subject matter.

But unfortunately, some of the teachers and professors have not tasted the intrinsic beauties themselves, let alone to convey them to students. So, once again, many students are put in the same old condition, which is "you are on your own", as people say, in that sense.

A person's interest can spark en passant.

So, a rich environment is pivotal, in that sense.

Have I come off to be a Google fanboy too much?

That would be too much of a good thing.

Many companies have been bending their courses and fitting out their tablet computing devices lines.

I for one see that, and I for one see a glut in its formation.

To the untrained eyes of mine, the American senatorial functions and processes look just opaque.

But a man's ignorance of politics must be lifted at some time in his life, I am afraid. After all, politics organizes THE WAYS a society is.

Article via web - Obama Turns to Mideast, Offers ‘New Way’ With Muslims

Looking back to the Obama in his election and inauguration period, here goes a nice article: Obama Turns to Mideast, Offers ‘New Way’ With Muslims - Bloomberg.

I personally reckon that that article was written well and chose citations of Obama's words very well.

On a related note, it seems, to an outsider like me, that the divers dimensions of the Muslim world are very unclear, for the time being.

The acceleration of the world's changing is beyond measure, sometimes I feel.

Is North Korea really contriving launching a nuclear bomb or two?

Everyone is forced to PAY attention to that sovereignty. It must know that our attention and time is expensive. How much GDP is lost because of this amount of collective attention? :-) Just some gibberish from me.

Some harms cannot be offered something in recompense for.

Gee. Too much tonic mixed with cola can leave such a long-lasting bitterness in my mouth.

I am an idiot.

In economically difficult times, people tend to be more opposed to illegal immigrants being bluntly set on shore.

Classics are gentle enemies.

It seems that for any person, most of new things or equipment are double-edged swords, in terms of how he makes use of his time.

For one thing, social networking websites can enhance his information intake, while it can suck away and away his precious time on the other hand.

We have to make the best of that conundrum.

Rain break

(Picture from http://goo.gl/tWh3g)

The other week, when I was sitting out a sudden big pouring of rain in a shopping centre, I thought, why some people tend to curse an occasional break like that from daily routines? For those people who the timing of the breaking rain didn't wreak real inconvenience, what was so bad about it?

People tend to become lonelier and lonelier, in this world with more mobility and less face-time.

When loneliness snipes, how can one gather himself and keep his wholesomeness?

No wonder movies and novels have been selling quite well.

Who didn't experience misery before achieving something? At least in some senses?

Is it really inevitable that innumerable men turn crotchety when they turn old?

Now that Obama has fulfilled some of his important presidential election campaign promises, I for one, in Canada, hope that his team is going to resurrect the United States of America as a top-shelf economic ENGINE.

The speaker in the "Subway" sandwich outlet is blasting out loud pop music officiously, right above my ears.

I am deprived of my right of choosing not to listen to it. Gee, consumer rights are hard to protect, especially when they are attacked through the air. :-D

In a certain sense, the Canadian way of life is so procedural.

The mysterious Vatican, the Roman Catholic church, has been upbraided for years.

What facility will the Catholicism stand upon in future?

Westerners tend to be less round about religion than Chinese are, it seems.

Should I in the future learn a little bit Spanish, or Italian, in order to become capable of pinpointing groovy music pieces written by magnets born in Spain and Italy?

Sigh. No time.

I think statistics is more artificial than arithmetics, or counting. (But maybe I am wrong.)

Consider "1 + 1 = 2" vs. "P(A intersection B) / P(B) = P(A given B)".

The sample space must be big enough, yet controlled and without outside interferences.

The taste of a person being a producer may be on a different route than that the taste of him being a consumer is on.

How to reconcile them?

And Einstein stated that imagination is more important than knowledge.

It suddenly dawned on me that Wikipedia has dominated my conscience and judgement about what is important and what is not.

(Picture from http://goo.gl/015Uh)

If something or someone is not sufficiently mentioned in one or more Wikipedia entries, which means that no one has bothered to write and edit information about that something or someone, it implicitly equals to that that is not important enough, in my mind.

The advancing of the intelligence apparatus of any government is so imperative.

But that must be highly confidential state secrets and I, a civilian, rarely see any information about that in public media.

Sometimes, the essence of a monolithic group is just unsatisfying.

I've been torn between fully embracing the red hot social networking such as Facebook and shunning it.

Straight at the beginning, I had researched on that and found Facebook was a waste a time.

And just now, I googled that again. Still, I've found that Facebook, is a waste of time for individuals. (But maybe it's not the case for businesses.) See this article. Moreover, some people have said Facebook is so yesterday. (Man, that opinion makes me feel good. :-)

So, my personal Facebook account will remain dormant, I expect.

Article via web -

If you can read Chinese, I would highly recommend this article: Sighing... For the rough-and-tumble callousness which has been permeative in the past and current parenting in the homes in China.

Prepared with a background of being brought up in a pretty much closed China, I am not very enlightened about how accursedly the Jewish people have been treated across history and continents.

Sometimes, no protestations make any differences.

However, making a difference on others may not be the real purpose of the person uttering protestations. Read: cathartic.

Sometimes I don't like obtrusive advertisements very much, but I for one let them pass.

I don't surely know what it was like in the past, but in this era of knowledge economy, myriad individuals keep increasing and increasing their levels of sophistication after the completion of their formal education.

Happiness is a person's capacity to find it, in certain senses.

The North American labor market apparently is going to be more and more volatile, from the point of view of a worker, I suppose.

Europe's sophisticated major transportation hubs, such as Paris and London's Heathrow Airport and St Pancras international railway station, are incapacitated by unexpected wintry treatments.

Here goes a piece of news at NYT: Snow Hampers Travel in Europe.

This mayhem proves that non-private organizations are essentially not good at predicting changes and then taking effective measures accordingly.

Career vis-a-vis family (Chains of economic values vis-a-vis chains of loves)

I for one sometimes suspect that the concept of "career" resulted from the combination of the intentional devising by the corporate world's propaganda machines and the somewhat unintentional devising by a small group of really high achievers in the past.

If you entirely buy into that popularized notion of "career", my friend, then you risk ignoring the fact that a more powerful force over your prospect as a worker is the iron law of SUPPLY AND DEMAND, which governs the labor market and an individual's work life all the way. When you enter a labor market and work in it, you are entering a system of chains of (economic) values, and you are not entering a system of chains of loves, essentially. As human beings, we need love. So, my friend, when you are still not too old and discouraged to build a family, you want to do that by all means, for the benefit of yourself and the society at large.  Think about that. And think hard about why family life is such an entrenched value in the North American culture.

The choices of software apparatus seem to know no bounds.

Just keep on exploring and exploring.

Throughout Canada, the maintenance of the status quo that the credit cards companies, such as VISA and MasterCard, grab outrageously high transaction fees is apparently not in the cards any longer.

My realization of my own ignorance has gone up a notch.

For one thing, it has dawned on me just now that I still don't really grasp why the U.S. government initiated and kept its war, together with its allies, in Afghanistan, against the backdrop that many civilians in the U.S., Canada and other Western countries seriously oppose it, and how the average people in Afghanistan have lived since the Taliban had assumed significance within the country.

Sometimes the lure of consumption unhinges, or undermines, an individual's ultimate potential, and drives him beside his reason.

My opinion regarding Intel has dropped some notches over the last few years.

Their technical competence, their relevance, and their handling of suppliers seem to be slipping. Well, their top brass will feel knots of uneasiness, especially against the promising ARM chip technologies and the cheap chips from AMD, in the forthcoming years. Here is some quote from http://goo.gl/FD6ze :

ARM Holdings Plc, the top designer of processors for smartphones, is pushing into chips for server computers and aims to start eroding Intel Corp.’s dominance in that market in 2014.
Server manufacturers are already looking at chips based on ARM’s technology, Chief Executive Officer Warren East said last week in an interview. The designs will help create lower-power computers, which will make data centers more efficient. Still, the effort will take years to bear fruit, he said.

I for one don't like very much the fact that the U.S. society condones extreme competition at workplaces.

On a related note, google "逃离北上广" (a new phenomenon in China) if you like.

The works by the marketing and PR arms of Google Inc. are so understatedly elegant and enrapturing.

One of my friends once said I am a Google fan.

In order to compete in and contribute to this globalized world in this era which is post the democratization of computing, English fluency is no longer sufficient,

and a measure of real proficiency in informational apparatus (a.k.a. IT, if you will) is mandatory too, for average Joes and Janes.

The rapid advances or changes of the society can feel nipping sometimes.

That is a piteous conundrum that most of us are put in, I am afraid, my friend.

So far, the lyrics of The Shins are the hardest ones for me to understand, in the pop music of the English world.

But, man, they're such an excellent band. And the music and lyrics created and performed by them are really substantially poetic.

In some of her music videos, the apparitional Lady Gaga seems to be difficult to appreciate.

Once, or several times, upon a time, I lived in pained numbness, not mere melancholy, weary of the surrounding and somewhat engulfing world.

Human experience has its highs and lows. And we tend to, occasionally, reflect on what we once were desperate to escape from.

Maple leaves and northern snow, reflected upon flags

For the most part, I am a man who tends to be numb to colors. But the other day, while in the snow, a national flag of Canada came into my sight, and the dually colorful configuration on it struck me, somewhat surreally. I did a double take. It is red and white.

Coincidentally, in terms of colors, the university flag of McGill U. is also red and white.

My unverified guess is that all those flag color constellations trace back to that maple leaves are red and northern snow is white.

Twitter, Facebook, and Google Reader are three powerful vehicles for people's information streams.

How individuals' own information streams evolve will be quite intriguing to look at.

Keywords: Information stream, filter, discovery, limited time, limited attention.

I miss the rain dropping off roof gutters in my childhood hometown.

The rain and chains of feelings flowed off myriad gutters into rivers of no return.

Information overload over individuals is part of the Zeitgeist.

Article via web -

例如,英语中insist, persist翻译成汉语都可能是“坚持”,这样的翻译并不能准确表明它们的基本含义,英英词典则不然,它告诉你insist的意思是“to say firmly and repeatedly that something is true, refuse to let anyone say no”persist的含义则是“to continue to do something, although this is difficult or other people warn you not to do it”。又如“He arrived in New York last January.” 但是我们查一下英英词典就会发现last在这里的意思是“most recent, the nearest to the present time”。

例如epilogue的解释是“a speech or a piece of writing added to the end of a book, film, or play”。 因此,“一个好消息”就不能译成“a good news”而应该是“good news”;设备数量再多也只是“equipment”而不是“equipments”。另一本常用的这类词典Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English在动词后面用VP (verb phrase) 1, 2, 3…… 可以译成:“He suggested the theatre.”,或“He suggested going to the theatre.”,或“He suggested that we should go to the theatre.”。一些初学者容易把这句说成是“He suggested to go to the theatre.”,也许是因为汉语里有“去”字的缘故。

Clean rap - "Mama Filipina" Official HD Music Video (2009)

The Lyrics are here: http://goo.gl/EG76n .

The Philippines seem to be always on the back burner of the world media, to my knowledge. But I reckon it must be an intriguing nation.

On another note, mind you the singer in the video is Apl.de.Ap, a B-list (sort of) rapper who is also a member of the popular rap band The Black Eyed Peas, which keeps blitzing the globe with their fan-base-building tours.

By the way, this is clean rap, which is different than the dirty one by Eminem, Dr. Dre and the likes.

Now this particular song strikes a chord with people. What chord is it?

Lots of girls and women tend to be amorous of Harlequin romance novels.

It seems very likely that women and men are going to experience an extended period of drastically profound but sometimes subtle changes in their expected relative societal roles and familial roles, in the light of the upcoming knowledge economy.

River of No Return

例如有女侍应提议,送杯啤酒送饭好,客人答:『I dont think it could be.』

像英国《金融时报》报道新机场开幕大混乱那天,头一句是:『The lobster is certified dead on arrival.』

而非书写用的『I look forward to having lunch with you.

从小喜欢读故事书,什么《Prisoner of Zenda》、《Thirty-nine Steps》、《Little Women》都读过了。

「建立词汇很重要,譬如什么叫『he is like a loose canon?』」

There is a will,there is a way

No pain, No gain.

(For English learners in Canada and the U.S.A., I'd recommend The New York Times, which is the undisputed No. 1 newspaper.  --double_take)
